How to Submit

Due to the large number of unsolicited submissions we receive, the Dijkstra Agency is now ONLY able to respond those submissions in which we are interested. Unsolicited submissions in which we are not interested will receive no response. (Therefore, please do not enclose a self addressed stamped envelope [SASE], and do not send any pages or material you need returned to you. In your materials, please be sure to include all your contact information, including your email address.)

We will continue to welcome unsolicited, hardcopy submissions with open arms, and we shall read each and every submission we receive. Authors whose work interests us can expect a response within 6-8 weeks of submitting your manuscript or proposal.

Please remember that we accept hard copy submissions only, and will not read or respond to emailed submissions.

What to include in your submission package:
Fiction: We ask that you send a query/cover letter, a 1-2 page synopsis, and a sample of your manuscript (no more than the first 50 pages, double spaced, single sided, and unbound).

Non-fiction: We ask that you send a proposal (an overview, a detailed chapter outline, author bio, 1-2 sample chapters, and a brief analysis of readership and competing titles).

Submission tips:

  • Please review our agents' profiles (on our Meet the Agents page) to select the agent for whom your project is most appropriate, and send it to her attention. Please only submit to one agent at our agency.
  • Be sure to include all of your contact details (email address and phone number), so that we are able to reach you if we are interested in your project or if we have a question.
  • We will not accept CDs or discs.
  • If you have relevant writing experience (articles, books), and/or have received writing awards, please include details in your cover letter.
  • If you have been referred to us, please be sure to include that information in your cover letter.
  • If you submit your manuscript to more than one agency at a time, please let us know in your cover letter that it is a multiple submission. Similarly, be sure to let us know if we have your work exclusively.
